Korean Phone Information- Very Important!

Not as simple as you might think.

On any business card (or when people are giving you their number) you may see many odd digits and parentheses. Based on a landline # of 82-(0)2-3775-1524 and a cell # of 82-(0)11-9852-5624, here are the basics:

(i) 82 is the country code, ignore that if calling inside Korea.

(ii) if dialing another area code (like Jeonju, 063) from a landline or cell you need to dial the "063" or whatever before the number.

(iii) When dialing a landline from a cell you need to dial "02" then the rest of the number (may be 7 or 8 digits).

(iv) If dialing a cell from a landline or another cell you need to dial "0" then the 2 digit cell exchange (10,11,16,17,18,19) then the number...such as 011-9852-5624.

(v) dialing a landline to another landline is easy...just dial the last 7 or 8 digits.

(vi) if you don't enter an area code the default is that of which you are calling from (if calling from Seoul on a landline it will automatically put an 02 in front of the #, if calling from SK Telecom's 011 service it will put 011 in front of the number you are calling).
