TriCare Prime (CS Insurance while overseas)

TRICARE Prime Overseas is a managed care option for active duty service members and their command-sponsored family members living together in non-remote overseas locations. Enrollment is required to participate. Retirees and their families may not enroll in TRICARE Prime Overseas.

Plan Overview
When you enroll in TRICARE Prime Overseas, you have an assigned primary care manager (PCM) at a military treatment facility (MTF) in most cases who provides most of your care. Your PCM will refer you to a specialist for care he or she cannot provide and coordinate with your TRICARE Area Office for authorization when needed.

However, there are some differences in some overseas areas. For example:

In Canada, you will select a primary care manager from a Canadian Forces Health Facility.
In Puerto Rico, TRICARE has partnered with Humana Military Healthcare Services, Inc. (Humana Military) to deliver TRICARE Prime benefits.
Out-of-Pocket Costs
There are no enrollment fees and no out-of-pocket costs for any type of care as long as care is received from the PCM or with a referral. Download the Summary of Beneficiary Costs Flyer for more specific details.

Is TRICARE Prime Overseas Right for You?
If you are an active duty service member or an activated Guard or Reserve member stationed in a non-remote overseas location, you must enroll in TRICARE Prime Overseas. Family members must be command-sponsored to enroll or they have the option to use TRICARE Standard Overseas.

Enrolling in TRICARE Prime Overseas
To enroll in TRICARE Prime Overseas, you will submit a TRICARE Prime enrollment application along with a copy of your orders to the nearest overseas TRICARE Service Center or TRICARE Area Office (TAO). To include family members on your enrollment application, you must provide a copy of your orders showing command-sponsorship.
