Shopping in Myungdong
It is said that you could see the Korean economy after reading the cash flow in Myungdong. Subsequently, Myungdong , in which the main offices of the Bank of Korea, Kookmin Bank, Seoul Bank, and Korea Exchange Bank are located, is truly the origin of the Korean finance. A total of 70 financial institutions including 30 bank branches, 20 securities companies, and 20 2nd tier financial institutions are located in Myungdong. Moreover, Myungdong is the most thriving and abundant in terms of cultural aspects in the center of Seoul City. There are lots of fashion shops, cafes of long history, venues for playing live acoustic guitars, and many restaurants that satisfy various tastes of people.
Recently, some 20 fashion malls including UTOOZONE advertising "we will take care of everything from head to toe", V Exchange, Trend 20, ENVY, and Hamburger University were newly decorated in order to entice customers. Such multi shopping malls equipped with diverse events and convenient facilities have been refurbished, in a contemporary sense and manner, restoring the pride of the high class tailors and dressmakers in Myungdong of 1970s. The people who visit Myungdong for shopping spend on average around 2 million per day. Recently, Myungdong has been crowded with many foreigners. AKA Myeong-dong.. Is Korea's trendiest shopping area, with over 300,000 square meters of shops selling clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, and cosmetics. Many department stores also have a major presence here. Day or night, young people always crowd into the numerous restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, and night clubs in the area. Nearby Myeong-dong Cathedral is a frequent focal point for anti-government demonstrations and dissident holdouts, which sometimes mars the local atmosphere. The area also has an annual street festival.
